Kathak

Kathak, one of the main forms of classical dance of India and is indigenous to northern India. Its origin is traditionally attributed to the travelling bards of ancient northern India known as Kathakars or storytellers. It is characterized by intricate footwork and precise rhythmic patterns that the dancer articulates by controlling about 100 ankle bells. This dance form takes its movements from life, stylizes them, and adds the complex rhythmic patterns. It is presented by both males and females.
