Tabla

Tabla is referred to as Indian drums. It is an inevitable part of the Hindustani section. It consists of a small right-hand wooden drum called dhaayan and a larger left-hand metal one called baayan. The diameter at the membrane may run from just under five inches to over six inches. The baayan may be made of iron, aluminium, copper, steel, or clay. Large black spots on playing surface are a mixture of gum, soot, and iron filings and they create a bell-like timbre that is characteristic of the instrument.
